Minimum
Qualifications:
BA Degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education or Psychology required.
Background in behavior management/modification and/or psychology helpful.
Job requires traveling within area served by the program.
Must have valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
Essential Duties:
Provides direct services to children with special needs as determined by the Special Services Coordinator, including implementation of behavior modification programs.
Works with content area support staff and classroom team to develop and implement assigned children's Individual Education Plans.
Ensures that all children with special needs receive fully inclusive programming in the classroom setting.
Follows-up on children's needs as determined by developmental screening procedures and carries-out prescriptive programming.
Provides an environment of acceptance and enhances children's understanding of themselves as individuals.
Models developmentally appropriate practices.
Communicates with children in a positive manner, providing a supportive social and emotional climate.
Conducts home visits and meetings with parents as assigned.
Works with parents and staff to plan appropriate at-home activities for children with special needs.
Assists parents in learning to be an advocate for their child and supports them through the evaluation process.
Assists with the implementation of Mental Health Services as determined by the Special Services Coordinator.
Participates in initial, mid-year, exit case conferences and individual case conferences as needed.
Assists in the ongoing implementation of and adherence to the Head Start Performance Standards.
Participates in workshops, in-service training, classroom team meetings, and regular staff meetings.
Shares appropriate information.
Oversees Second Step programming in Head Start classrooms.
Participates in Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) Conferences upon request.
Actively seeks information in early childhood education and special education and integrates into planning efforts.
Promotes mental wellness by mentoring staff during regularly scheduled office hours to:
follow-up on classroom observations and recommendations; guide classroom teams in developing strategies/plans as needs arise; address concerns regarding individual children; and provide resources, feedback, and discussion as needed.
Attends Head Start Management Meetings and shares relevant information.
Participates as a committee member of the Head Start Early Childhood Development/Special Services Committee, Pyramid Committee, Staff Wellness, Health Advisory, and other Agency committees, and other community sponsored events as requested.
Works with Special Services Coordinator and other content area Coordinators to facilitate planning and implementation of services and activities.
Assists teaching staff with developmental and behavioral screenings.
Assists in the care, inventory, and requisitioning of Special Services equipment and supplies.
Observes, records, and reports individual child behavior maintaining accurate, prompt, and confidential documentation.
Assists in organizing training activities to meet the diverse needs of parents with children of special needs.
Assists with the appropriate transitioning of children with special needs to their next learning environment.
Coaches a minimum of three education staff members and provides technical assistance, observation, and feedback throughout the program year.
Conducts CLASS, TIPOT, TIPITOS observations and reports on observation scoring.
